hmm
I hope the public option for health care doesn't fly out the window. That would be very disappointing. I read Obama's op-ed in the NYT yesterday...I wish the op-ed could be printed everywhere! By printing it in the NYT it's almost like he's preaching to the choir. "Keep the government off my Medicare!!!!1111!" aghhh. Sigh.

Also, this weekend I was told I should get a "real" job so I can stay grounded in "real life" as I wade into the murky waters of academia this fall. Because a job is only worth it if you sell your soul to make tons of money and buy a Hummer to mask your insecurity. Sheesh! Grad school is enough for me! And it is a "job." Wanting to educate the next generation and study how the mind works isn't such a crappy endeavor, right?

Also, I moved in with The Engineer! He bought a condo near my school and we finally moved in on Friday and Saturday. On Friday we spent 10 hours going back and forth between Somerville and Waltham in his car, and on Saturday we moved the rest of everything in a UHaul. Now I have a big tv too. Yay. The condo is great. Very sunny. I'm visiting family in New York right now, so I've been getting updates on the moving progress through his Facebook uploads. The half bath now has a mirror. Win! He's been concentrating on more handy man-esque activities like installing towel bars, whereas when I return on Tuesday one of my main goals will be to clear off the counter so we can actually see it.

"Defecation is controlled by the autonomic nervous system and the number of fecal pellets (poops) that are dropped is a reliable and measure of ANS activity."

This sentence is interesting. I like the inclusion of the word "poops." Also, does it contain a typo? "a reliable and measure" ??? Shouldn't it just be "a reliable measure?" If I spent the time to write a book and a typo made it in there, I would be a bit upset.

I'm enjoying my pre-academia sabbatical very much!

I have a confession: I am an Adam Lambert fangirl.

Apparently I'm also vaguely a cougar in a 24 year old's body. Thanks, Newsweek.

Glambert!

I am channeling my inner 14 year old, as the article suggests. When I was 14, I was deeply involved with my Robbie Williams cds and posters. Ten years later, I have moved on from an ex-heroin addict to a fictional drug dealer (Stringer Bell!) and now to a quasi-goth man with a boyfriend.

The other night Steve and I were watching House Hunters and the family in the show bought two pugs after moving to their new place. I was like, 'Oh, there's Desmond!' in reference to my fictional (to be NON FICTION one day!) pet, and Steve replied, 'And Penny too!' in reference to my other fictional dog. That was nice; I'm glad he remembers my fantasies. Although he doesn't support me in ALL of my endeavors. When I asked him if he would go to the American Idol tour with me so I could squeal at Adam Lambert, he replied, "Not my thing, but maybe my co-workers have some children who would go with you."

woe
I am so distressed. Having never been a very athletically inclined person (but being a very goal oriented person), after getting into graduate school, I needed a new goal. So, I decided to get into shape and *finally* run a 5k successfully, mostly because I've been saying I would do this since 2007. Anyway, now I can basically run a 5k in like...35 minutes. This is quite slow, but I'm happy that I'm able to do it. It feels really good to finish, and I basically decided that I'm going to try and run a 10k by the fall. Anyway, I ran 5k route around Davis Square on Thursday evening, and on Friday afternoon I felt a sharp pain in the arch of my foot when I put weight on it. So, I had Steve pick me up from work and bring me home instead of walking. Anyway, it intensified on Saturday, and I actually took the bus to Eryk's house, even though it's only a 15 minute walk. And it still aches to put weight on it this morning.

Anyway, this wouldn't be so bad if I wasn't signed up to run my first "official" 5k race next Sunday. I would be incredibly disappointed if I wasn't able to participate. Running this is like me running a marathon. I know I'm not going to win, but finishing would be a personal triumph, etc. Ughh please make my foot get better. So I guess I'm banned from running until the day of the race; instead I'm electing to do low impact sorts of activities in order to not lose working out momentum. This is just so disappointing. Sigh.

Also, I am moving in with Steve in July. Omg, etc. He bought a condo and I'm supposed to be picking out "window treatments." I feel very undomesticated, no matter how much HGTV I watch.

Finally, if you bring the raspberry Harpoon to a party, you must hide it because all the females present will drink them before you can get to it when other options present are like Bud Light.

I like to get suggestions from Netflix. Thank you Netflix, for pigeonholing my tastes so well:

Netflix suggests:
Gritty crime TV shows
Dramas starring Meryl Streep
Critically acclaimed dark biographical movies
Romantic comedies

(basically I've been watching The Wire (rip Stringer), Doubt, and Milk lately and Netflix ran with it).

Also, how awesome was the new Star Trek movie? VERY AWESOME! I loved the end when Leonard Nimoy did the little tv Star Trek pre-opening speech. I wonder why they didn't let Shatner do it. I know there was controversy that they didn't write him into the movie and he wanted to participate.

Chris Pine made a nice/handsome captain, but I am partial to the Picard way, being a TNG fan (also note my boyfriend's choice of hairstyle--the cup runneth over). Also, being a female TNG fan, the only thing missing in the new movie was:

Yum. I don't know if my father's mustache or Riker sparked my ongoing dating adventures with men who have nice (or just have...no need to be picky) facial hair. I really don't know.

Can I just say, I love how BU won the national championship in typical heart attack fashion. Seriously, two goals to tie the game in the last minute of the third period?

Also, the grad school admissions process is finally over. I was accepted to four schools, got an interesting proposition from a fifth, and I'm 90% sure where I'm going to be in the fall. Visiting a campus on Monday, and making my decision right in time for Wednesday's deadline. Can I just say, I have been working toward this since November 2007, when I took the subject GRE, and now it's finally time to make a decision. But making that decision is awesome/scary. Either way, it'll be an adventure. Dr. Brit : )

Netflix says I like "critically acclaimed emotional dramas."

Also, how can the third season of The Tudors be a watch instantly movie while I have to wait around for the second season dvds? Life is cruel.
